Home Renovations for Christmas

Would you like to get some home renovations done for Christmas? Perhaps you’ve been thinking of a new fireplace, a new kitchen, knocking two rooms into one or  converting an attic into a bedroom for some time. The thing is if you can get them done by December 2016, you can save up to €4000 on the work completed by applying for the Home Renovation Incentive scheme.

The 3 Zones of a Kitchen

We’ve all heard of the working triangle in the kitchen (whereby you’ll find it easier to cook efficiently if your sink, preparation area and cooker/hob are all located to form a triangle) but have you heard about the three zones of modern kitchens? If you’re planning a new build, a renovation or a new kitchen, this could be very useful advice indeed. This has come about because people aren’t just using kitchens for cooking. It’s very true that this isn’t a modern movement. Indeed, in the 1970s, those building new homes with living rooms were considered to be somewhat strange to want to sit and relax in a room away from the kitchen. People have cooked, ate, entertained and indeed, used their kitchen as their main living area for decades.

The Burnaby

There’s a move back to it though with a kitchen functioning as the “hub of the house” as being very desirable. A space for family to congregate when eating; for children to do their homework while a parent is cooking; for friends to pop in and relax with a cuppa over a chat. This is being reflected in the design of modern kitchens so the three zones are:

Interior Design Trends for 2017

add-heading

If you’re planning on doing some decorating this autumn, you’re probably wondering what’s on trend for the autumn and winter and yet you want to know that they aren’t going to be a flash in the pan, that these trends will last for some time.

1. Wallpaper

To be honest, wallpapering just the feature wall (be it the fireplace wall in a living room or the wall behind the bed in a bedroom) has been going out for years. However, as it’s much cheaper to wallpaper one wall as you’ll only need three rolls of wallpaper for most rooms, the trend for the feature wall continued in homes long after we were told the trend had died. The mix and match on walls is finished I’m afraid.

How to improve Storage in your Hallway

Do you get fed up of falling over shoes as you walk into your hallway? Are there schoolbags, hurleys, footballs and trainers strewn around? Is it a nightmare trying to find matching shoes at times? If it’s starting to get you down once you open the door to walk into the house, it really is time to do something about it.

While many of us will make more of an effort with our front hallway, after all, that’s where visitors come in and we did a post a while ago on making the most of the space under your stairs for storage, but the mess can really accumulate in a utility or small hallway off the back or side door.

Hooks & Baskets

The baskets are handy for storing boots and shoes, and the footwear won’t be spilling out all over the floor. Notice that the hooks are double hooks, one part of it can hold the schoolbag and the other part will take the coat. The bench effect means that there’s a place for you to sit down briefly to put on a pair of shoes, important when children are learning how to lace their shoes. The narrow shelf at the top means that nice objects can be displayed which dresses up the hallway too.

How To Make Your Home Ready For Autumn

Summer is coming to an end and there’s already foliage blowing around on the ground after the winds last week and some trees are starting to turn golden yellow and deep red. Now that temperatures will be dropping too, how can you make your home snug and more homely as we move into autumn and winter? This post will show you how to ring the changes of the seasons relatively easily.

1. Colours

You don’t have to redecorate to bring autumn into your home. You can ring the changes twice or three times a year by changing accessories like cushions and adding some cosy throws.

Autumnal cushions

A couple of cushions in burnt orange intermixed with dark greens within your living room or bedroom decor scheme (if it suits the rest of the decor) are all you need to add that autumnal touch.
