Oil Boiler Replacement Cost Survey 2022

Oil Boiler Replacement Cost Survey - Tradesmen.ie Blog

If your existing oil boiler has been installed for a number of years, it might be worth replacing it in order to save on fuel costs and increase safety and reliability.

A while ago we carried out an oil boiler replacement cost survey with some tradesmen on our website.  We asked them how much it would cost to replace an oil boiler and we asked them to give us some tips for customers when replacing an oil boiler in their home.   Here is a sample of the replies we received below:-

Noel from Dublin: To  replace an oil boiler the cost would be €2500 approx.. but it all  depends on the circumstances and each job being different. Tips:1. the more details the better, example make of boiler , shower etc. 2. also photos / pics  very helpful. 3. give the trades person doing the job , the option of cash or bank transfer etc. 4. flexibility regards what time they can be available not just before 9am and after 5:30

Neil from Wicklow: Cost is about 3500 to 5700 depending on size of boiler and make. What zone

controls are there and what upgrades are needed. Do you need a power flush?

Michael from Kildare: For changing the boiler – roughly €3000 -€3200 for grant vortex boiler house.

Aidan from Dublin: Re oil boiler replacment , To replace an oil boiler and re fit a A rated condensing grant vortex EUR 2800+vat . if there is more work it would be extra.  The most efficient boiler on the market is the grant vortex condensing boiler , they can go in a shed or you can get one with it’s own water proof housing , outdoor model, with the price of oil going up in cost if somebody had a boiler 15/20 years old it would be and rated where an new boiler is a rated , a saving of 30% on oil  .

Customer should ask their contractor if they are Oftec registered, also u should install smart controls with room stats , a way of more control on your heating , also if u could zone your heating system no point heating upstair when there is nobody there , fitting trv values , temperature control rad values lets you to set each rad at a temperature .

Oil and gas boiler should be serviced every year for warranty, safety check and to improve boiler efficiency .

Stefan from Dublin: It depends what Kerosen boiler they want…is starting from about €2500 but same you can buy much more expensive like €4800 But standard kerosene boiler I’m doing for €2500

Slawomir from Dublin: The cost of replacing the oil burner varies.  If the housing is in good condition you just need to replace the burner. The cost of that job is usually around 2,000.00. I would consider and propose replacing the oil burner with a heat pump as most of the oil burners are outside and the connections are there.

I hope this helps some of you who are planning to replace an oil boiler or oil burner in your home. If you are looking for quotes for an oil boiler or oil burner replacement, you can post your job here

General Tips for hiring a tradesman

Here are some tips to consider when hiring a tradesman:-

1. Ask for phone numbers of references so that you can check them out

2. Check insurance of the tradesman where insurance is required

3. Hire a suitably qualified architect, building surveyor or building engineer if the job is anything to do with a new build, building renovation or extension

4. Agree on some sort of stage payments for the job. Remember that full payment should not be made until the job is complete and has been inspected by you, and if necessary by a certifier.
